Hello everybody welcome to The County Seat I'm your host Chad Booth We have an interesting topic today have you ever imagined that you want to be a jet-setter, and you got to fly to work in jet Well guess what it might be something a LOOF people can afford and actually benefit them and that is the topic of our show today it's a very interesting topic, and you will want to stay tuned it's called balance Utah, and it's a concept that is grown up and developing out in Ninth County Let's get a little background and the idea behind it Community leaders around the state are trying to find ways to cope with the continuing growth along the Wasatch Front The state's economy has been so successful that it is accelerating the arrival of several inevitable issues that must be dealt with How do we keep pace with a growing population What do we do about air quality pockets of prosperity and poverty in the economy affordable housing for people who want to live here So out of all these questions comes an idea Ninth County thinks they have some answers with a Pilot program called Balance Utah By offering a commuter flight path from Vernal to SLC they hope to create a paradigm where people live where they play and visit where they work The freeways flood with traffic each day as people move from one valley where they live to the valley where they work Sometimes spending 3 to 35 hours on the road What Balance Utah proposes is a 1-hour commute 30 minutes in the air and 30 minutes on Tax to take people to their jobs without being caught up in traffic on the freeways Assuming they can fly 100 passengers per plane this plan cuts back on 100 commuter cars twice a day Less cars also means less traffic which leads to improved air quality The plan also promotes the idea that it is easier and more cost-effective to ramp up air travel than it is to do more road expansion projects BTW if you are bypassing the roads no more orange barrels But this is really about creating a more balanced state-wide workforce by allowing people who live in or want to live in rural Utah access to jobs along the Wasatch Front As well as providing businesses along the Wasatch Front with an additional pool of people to fill the thousands with positions within organizations that are currently unfilled Which leads us to the issue of affordable housing That is another imbalance that this issue is likely to fix Ninth Basin has housing available where people can buy a home for significantly less than they will find in Salt Lake Davis or Utah County Potential Homebuyers canals get a lot more for their money in Ninth County without necessarily giving up the job opportunities associated with the Wasatch Front If the pilot program takes off it's something that can be replicate din other communities in Rural Utah with minimal infrastructure cost; allowing people to live where they want while also allowing them to work where they want For county Seat I'm Maggie K Pretty exciting huh Well we are going to dive...
